- An efficiency check of the Newark Free Public Library found the
institution rating high in all areas.
- The Newark Montgomery Ward Store was set to close for six days while new
stairways to the basement and mezzanine were installed.
- "Religion is the only cure for war" said the Rev. Charles
Walker, Pastor of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, speaking at Armistice Day
ceremonies.
- Starters for Coach Hatsell’s Newark High School basketball team were
Ken Dey, George Farrell, Paul Minutolo, Junie Darrow, Babe Colacino, and
Jake Cuvelier.
- Ad- Maressa’s Store- West Union Street- Butter, 2 lbs. for 65 cents,
Kellogg’s Corn Flakes, 7 cents a package, and walnuts, 23 cents a pound.

November 19, 1959
- The Newark Village Board gave its blessing to a plan by the Newark
Booster’s Club to build an outdoor swimming pool for the community.
Perkins Field on Hoffman Street and Perkins Park were possible locations.
- The Arcadia Hose Company held an open house to show off their new 1959
International Fire Pumper and Tanker.
- Displaying their art skills at Newark High School were Tom Holmes, John
Benzel, Art Joseph, Vincent DeWind, Ron Austin, Sally Smith, Bill Heise,
Mary Critelli, and Peter Stockman.
- Bob Wolk tossed a 598 set and Ted Beales rolled a triple of 595 as top
scorers at Rose Bowl Lanes.

November 15, 1984
- Remet Ceramics was sold to Robert Stanton, with the business to be named
Refractron Corp.
- Newark Rotary and Lions Clubs co-sponsored a Blood Bank at St. Mark’s
Church, challenging each other to donate, with the losing club to serve
coffee to the winning club at their regular meeting.
- The Richard Hawver Art Exhibit was held at Community College of the
Finger Lakes, honoring Mr. Hawver, who taught in Newark for 32 years.
- "Newark is a better place because of you" wrote Courier
Gazette publisher, John H. Van Dusen, commenting on the closing of Sarah
Coventry in Newark, and outlining the history of the company.
