Newark restaurant gutted by fire
fire at restaurant

Canalview Restaurant on West Union Street, Newark, was the scene of an early morning blaze yesterday. Firefighters were called out at about 1:30 a.m.

Few details are available yet, but the fire was under control by 4:30 a.m., with assistance from Lyons and Port Gibson Fire Departments.

The fire was the second that firefighters had to battle. Thursday evening, Newark firefighters had been at Ultralife Batteries, Route 88 south, from about 6 to 9 p.m. Several firefighters were injured at that fire, and all but one has been released from hospital.

Watch for details in next Friday's issue.)
