Ogden, Etta Mae - Etta Mae Ogden, 96, formerly of Charlotte Street, died Jan. 7, 2000 at the DeMay Living Center in Newark. Mrs. Ogden was born the daughter of George and Caroline Frey Brasser on July 3, 1903, in East Rochester. She was a devoted and loving wife and mother. She was a member of East Palmyra Presbyterian Church and the Rebekahs in Shortsville and Canandaigua. Interment, Riverview Cemetery. Mrs. Ogden is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Wm. Ralph and Dorothy Ogden of Clifton Springs, and Robert and Jean Ogden of FL; her son-in-law and his wife, Gordon and Evelyn Schrader of Newark; 13 grandchildren, and 27 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Ogden was predeceased by her husband, William J. Ogden on Jan. 5, 1988; and her daughter, Ruth H. Schrader on Dec. 11, 1987.

Donovan, Norma - Norma June Donovan, 67, died Jan. 7, 2000 at Strong Memorial Hospital. Norma June was born in Buffalo on May 10, 1932, to Wilmer and Mabel Baney Events. She was a devoted and loving wife and mother, and a member of the Moose Club in Palmyra. Mrs. Donovan is survived by her husband, Paul; son Charles Breeding of Geneva; daughters, Linda (David) Esposito, and Judy (Larry) Fluet, both of Rochester; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; a brother, Ronald (Shirley) Zinn of Rochester; many nieces and nephews.

Fagner, Betty J. - Betty Jane Fagner, 80, of Palmyra, died January 10, 2000 at ViaHealth of Wayne in Newark. She was born September 26, 1919 in Claverack, NY to William and Alice Carroll Avery. She was a loving wife and mother, and a member of the Evangelical Church of Fairport. Interment in the Palmyra Cemetery. She is survived by her husband Kenneth Fagner, daughter Jill Fagner, nieces and nephews.

Nieskes, Richard - Richard B. Nieskes, 83, of Route 31, Newark died January 10, 2000, at Newark ViaHealth. He was born on January 11, 1916 in Newark to Peter and Sophia Wiebold Nieskes. He worked for many years for Walt Dennis Construction Company. He later worked and retired from Sarah Coventry. He was a member of the Newark Elks and Palmyra Moose Lodges. Interment in Newark Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Winifred 'Winny' Ellis Nieskes; sons, Gary (Sandra) of Florida, David (Linda) of Phelps, Ronald (Dawn) Nieskes of Phelps; daughters, Gail (James) Sadler of Newark, and Ann Albrecht of Arizona; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; stepsons, David (Sandra) Bridgeman and James (Linda) Bridgeman, of Newark; stepdaughter, Joan (Richard) Cook of Vestal; eight step-grandchildren and eight step-great-grandchildren; brother, Vincent (Madeline) Nieskes of Newark.

Hermanet, Mary (LaGasse) - Mary (LaGasse) Hermanet, 98, of Newark, died January 10, 2000. She was a retired country school teacher and known for her expertise in refinishing and caning chairs. She was an alumna of Geneseo Normal School. Interment in Marion Cemetery. Predeceased by husband, Bert. Survived by her sisters: Wilhemina Markarian, Katherine VanBortle, Gertrude Gill, Elsie Gill and Florence Martin; several nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews.

Seamon, Rena M. - Rena M. Seamon, 96, of Syracuse, died January 11, 2000 at the Baptist Home in Fairport, where she lived for the past nine years. Mrs. Seamon was born September 1, 1903, in Auburn, the daughter of George and Gertrude Gibson Eaton. She had been a teller and had worked in the trust department of Key Trust Company in Syracuse for many years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Syracuse. Interment in the Onondaga Valley Cemetery, Syracuse. Surviving are a sister, Blanche Doney of Auburn; niece, Barbara (Kenneth) Green of Cayuga; nephew, Warren Doney of Fort Pierce, Florida, and cousins, Dan and Edith Benedict of Newark.

Cady, Celia - Celia Nye Cady, 79, of Sodus, died January 1, 2000. Interment in South Lyons Cemetery. She is survived by her husband, Merton Cady; daughter, Darlene (Gordon) Bump of Phelps; two grandchildren, Melisa Janto of Hemlock, Timothy Janto of Clifton Springs.

Tellier, Bonny - Bonny Lynn Tellier, 56, of Canal Street, Palmyra, died January 1, 2000, at the home of her daugher in Newark. Bonny was born July 9, 1943, in Keansburg, New Jersey, to Barney and Dorothy Dyer Kaufman. She was a senior instructor of Emergency Medical Technicians at the Finger Lakes Training Center in Hopewell for more than 15 years. Bonny had been an active volunteer for many years with the Newark-Arcadia Volunteer Ambulance and the Palmyra Volunteer Ambulance. She is survived by her children, Darrin (Terry) All of Webster, Karen (Alex) Caraballo of Newark and April Lynn Tellier of Newark; two grandchildren, Lincoln and Spencer All; beloved friends, Richard Tellier of Newark, Michael, Zachery and Stephanie Pealo of Palmyra; stepdaughters, Wendy (Brian) Caffee of Farmington, Tracy (Joe) Diaz-Cruz of Newark; two brothers, Jerome (Joan) Kaufman of Lawrenceville, Georgia and Joel (Barbara) Kaufman of Bayside, NY; nieces and nephews

Kalbfleisch, Russell - Russell George 'Russ' Kalbfleisch, 54, of Lyons, died January 3, 2000 at his daughter's home in Palmyra, after a battle with cancer. Russ was born in Rose on October 17, 1945 to Richard and Eva Smith Kalbfleisch. He was the proprietor of Russ's Repair Shop in Lyons on Route 31. Prior to opening his shop, he worked for Wayne County as a mechanic. He worked on patrol cars for the Sheriff. He closed his shop in August 1999. Interment at the York Settlement Cemetery in Huron. Russ is survived by Jean Marshall and their children, Brenda Kalbfleisch of Palmyra, Larry Kalbfleisch of Newark; Peggy Kalbfleisch and their son, Russell Kalbfleisch of Lyons; two step-sons, Charlie Prober and Rick Fisher; brother, Ronald Kalbfleisch of Australia; sisters, Lorraine (Walter) Stek of Greece, NY, Eva Marie (Darrell) Hergert of Seneca Falls and Darlene Kalbfleisch of Waterloo; nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Reed, Ruth R. - Ruth R. Reed, 87, died January 2, 2000, at the Clifton Springs Nursing Home. Mrs. Reed was born January 30, 1912, in Rochester, NY, the daughter of Earl and Florence Cleveland Rice. At one time she had been a clerk at Burwals Dress Store and a bookkeeper at East Ave. Fuels in Medina. She was a member of both the Rebecca Lodge and the Kings Daughters in Medina. Ruth is survived by a daughter, Joan (John) King of Lehigh Acres, Florida; son, Norman of Santa Clara, California; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three brothers in Newark - Laurence (Wanda) Rice, Stanley (Doris) Rice and Kenneth (Joan) Rice; sister, Doris Chaffee of Venice, Florida; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Edward Luther Reed in 1993, two brothers Earl and Francis Rice, and a sister Dorothy Rice.

Stein, Francis J. - Francis J. 'Fran' Stein, 97, of Newark, died January 13, 2000 at Newark ViaHealth hospital. Mr. Stein was born in Allegany, NY on August 15, 1902, the son of John and Mary Grader Stein. He was a graduate of Brockport State Teachers College, and he did graduate studies at University of Buffalo, University of Rochester, Penn State and Cortland State College. In 1930, he came to Newark and taught high school math and later became Principal of Lincoln Elementary School. He also taught math and English at the Washington School on Church Street and coached baseball and tennis. Mr. Stein then joined the Paul D. Newton Co. in Newark. He later became a professor at the New York State University at Brockport and was Director of Placement until retiring in 1976. He had served as chairman of the Newark Zoning Board of Appeals and had been President of the Newark Public Library. Mr. Stein was a life member of the Newark Elks Lodge where he was Exalted Ruler of the Lodge from 1945-46. From 1973-77, he served as a trustee with the New York State Elks. Interment in the Newark Cemetery. Mr. Stein is survived by his wife Martha 'Marti,' a daughter Merne-Eddie Stein of Lancaster, and two grandsons, Clifford Stein and Albert Atea.

Friedrich, Sophie - Sophie Friedrich, 91, of Newark, died Wednesday January 12, 2000 at the DeMay Living Center. Mrs. Friedrich was born June 12, 1908 in Mahanoy City, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Anselm and Lisette Breuninger Miller. She had lived in Eggertsville, NY and retired to Dallas, PA around 1979, before moving to Newark eight years ago. She was a communicant of St. Michael's Church. Interment in East Newark Cemetery. Mrs. Friedrich is survived by her daughter, Barbara (Ken) Taylor of Toronto; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Anselm Miller of Texas and Leonard (Joan) Miller of Churchville; sister, Elizabeth Catrino of Wilkes-Barre, PA; son-in-law, Thomas Shear of Lyons; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Erich 'Dutch' in 1998, her daughter, Elizabeth 'Betsy' Shear in 1994, her parents and six siblings.

Mables, Isaac - Isaac J. Mables, 78, of Newark, died January 15, 2000. Mr. Mables was retired from the Newark Developmental Center. Interment in Sunnyside Cemetery, Williamson. He is survived by Virginia (Hilleger) Mables, his wife of 58 years; daughter, Sandra (Donald) Czadzeck of Walworth; son, Gary (Naida) Mables of Sodus; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elizabeth (Peter) DuBois of Williamson and Madelyn (John) Cambier of Palmyra; brother, William (Carol) Mables of Palmyra; sister-in-law, Arlene Mables of East Williamson; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Cornelius Mables.

Kommer, Maria - Maria Kommer, 84, of Newark, died January 17, 2000. She is survived by her daughter, Berniece (Terry) Ludwig of Fairport; three sons, Blair (Lorraine) of Rochester, Wilbur (Bill) of Clearwater, FL and Bennie of Rochester; grandson, Paul Lent of Marion; two brothers, William Klaeysen of Palmyra and Charles Klaeysen, of Florida; two sisters, Lena Smith of Palmyra and Nellie Garnsey of Manchester; nieces and nephews.

DeWeaver, Lawrence - Lawrence A. DeWeaver, 83, of Newark, died January 18, 2000. Mr. DeWeaver was born in Newark, the son of August F. and Marie VanDamme DeWeaver. He was a communicant of St. Michael's Church. Lawrence had been a farmer for many years and, in the late 1950's, he owned and operated the East Newark Grill. After selling the grill, he worked for Caves Lumber until his retirement. After retirement, he was a self-employed woodworker. He had been a member of the Marbletown Fire Department and Newark Elks Lodge. Interment in the Newark Cemetery. He is survived by two daughters, Jeanne (Peter) Ziccardi of Marilla, and Mary Margaret DeWeaver of Clifton Springs; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his wife, Thelma in 1997; daughter, Joan Stone in 1987; a brother, Victor; sisters, Augusta Rease and Esther Sprong.

Blair, William David, Sr. - William David Blair Sr., 57, of Lyons, died January 17, 2000 at Strong Memorial Hospital. He was born July 24, 1942, in East Rochester, a son of William and Bertha Bassage Blair. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. Interment will be in the Huron Evergreen Cemetery. He is survived by three children, William (Michele) Blair, Jr. of Newark, John (Diane) Blair of Lyons, and Nancy Byork of Lyons; his companion, Nancy Bryant of East Rochester; eight grandchildren; two sisters, Faye Anne Drock of Macedon and Yvonne Mousso of Springwater; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Eric and daughter, Wanda.

Nageldinger, Pamela - Pamela Nageldinger, 40, of Marion, died suddenly on Jan. 17, 2000. Pamela is survived by her husband, Robert; two daughters, Leanne (Raymond) Wonder of Clyde, and Cassandra at home; son, Corey at home; her parents, Allen and Kathy Voak of Penn Yan; sister, Elaine (Timothy) Henrey of Ontario; brothers, David Michael, Shawn and William, all residing in Walworth, and Douglas in Florida.

Marion, Lucille F. - Lucille F. Marion of Ridge Chapel Road, Marion died peacefully on Nov. 11, 1999 at Hillside Manor Nursing Home in Webster at the age of 84. She was predeceased by her husband Vincent in 1993, and her oldest son James in 1949. She is survived by son, Thomas (Cheryl) of Monticello, Kentucky; daughter, Carol (Leon) Deisering of Kennebunk, Maine; daughter, Janet (James) Yerves of Marion; and son, David (Elaine) of Marion; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren, Sarah and Timothy Deisering of Tucson, Arizona; sister, Evelyn Johnson; brother, Frank Singleton of Rochester; sister, Verna Scheible of Kalamazoo, Michigan. Interment in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.

Bouwens, Kenneth L. - Kenneth L. Bouwens, 66, of Palmyra, died January 20, 2000 at DeMay Living Center, Newark. Mr. Bouwens was born June 11, 1933 in Newark, the son of Oliver and Clara VanDeVelder Bouwens. At one time, he was a rural mail carrier. He retired in 1992 as a supervisor from the Palmyra Post Office. Mr. Bouwens was a member of the Park Presbyterian Church, Newark, and for many years was the Scoutmaster of Troop 138, Boy Scouts of America. He served with the U.S. Army in Korea during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 6778 in Palmyra and the August Mauer Post 286 American Legion in Newark. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; three children, Gloria Hermanet and her friend Audie Arliss, of Fairville; Gregory (Pennie) Bouwens of Fairville; Ginger (Gerald) Sullivan of Newark; seven grandchildren, Christopher Hermanet, Chad Bouwens, Kenny Bouwens, Jennifer Pickett, Dakota Bouwens, Whisper Bouwens and Bethanny Sullivan; great-grandson, Tyler Chamberlain; his mother, Clara of Lyons; brother, Herly (Esther) Bouwens of Newark; sister, JoAnn Fremouw and her friend, Gary, of East Rochester; aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Coughlin, Beatrice - Beatrice L. Coughlin, 88, of Clifton Springs, died January 11, 2000, at the Clifton Springs Hospital. Mrs. Coughlin was born July 8, 1911 in Newark, the daughter of Edward and Mary Bomeline DeCook. During the late 1930's and early 1940's, she and her husband Leslie Case, owned and operated Casey's Oasis in Canandaigua. After World War II, they operated a grocery store, also in Canandaigua, and are remembered for the Seven Acres Gift Shop, which they owned and operated in Farmington until the late 1960's. Interment in the Calvary Cemetery. She is survived by her sisters, Ethel Marie George of Mt. Dora, FL and Catherine Elizabeth Donk of Savannah; stepsons, Howard (Joan) Coughlin, Robert (Joanne) Coughlin, and John (Lorraine) Coughlin, all of the Syracuse area; stepdaughter, Charlene Quinn of California; several step-grandchildren; step-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husbands, Leslie Case and Francis J. Coughlin.

Ritter, Patricia Ann - Patricia Ann Ritter, 65, of Newark, died January 19, 2000, at the House of John in Clifton Springs. Pat was born April 28, 1934 in Newark, the daughter of Charles and Florence Priebe Plyter, Sr. She had worked for C.H. Stuart Company in Newark, where she was a Union president; she also worked for the Newark Developmental Center. She was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church. Interment in East Newark Cemetery. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Norman A. Sr.; son, Norman Jr.; daughter, Florence Ritter, all of Newark; brother, Charles Plyter Jr. of Canandaigua; two sisters, Carla Greene of Shortsville and Jacqueline (Harold) McAllister of Phelps; nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews.

Deats, Merle W. - Merle W. Deats, 81, of Fishers, died on January 20, 2000. Interment in White Haven Memorial Park. He is survived by his wife, Louise Cortright Deats; son Robert (Beverly) Deats of Phelps; daughter, Judy Crawford of Newark; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, George H. Deats of Elmira; sister, Eva Fife of Elmira; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Doris Ayers.

Bishop, Kathryn Enid Gaston - Kathryn Enid Gaston Bishop, 79, of Tallahassee, Florida, formerly of Lyons, died January 15, 2000 in Thomasville, Georgia. Kathryn was born Dec. 29, 1921 in Romulus, to Harry LeRoy Gaston and Helen Gertrude Hazen. She married Herbert Lincoln Bishop on Jan. 10, 1942 in the Park Presbyterian Church in Newark. After graduating from Newark High School in 1939 and the Park Avenue Nursing School, Kathryn was employed at the Barber Hospital as an LPN. She was the owner/ proprietor of the Wolcott Country Rest Home, the Lyons Nursing Home, the Hearth Adult Care Home, and two personal care homes in Florida. She was a Girl Scout leader and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was also the author of several children's books. She is survived by her daughters, Anne Kathryn Bishop of Carrabelle, FL, and Ruth Leah Bishop of Lyons and of Quitman, GA, Claire Ellen Wandersee of Mexico, and Helen Bishop Santelli of Lyons; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Lynn Slater (Angela) Gaston of Boca Raton, FL; nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Herbert Lincoln Bishop, who died June 27, 1987; her daughter, Mary Louise Bishop of Florida, who died Jan. 10, 1993; and her brother, Charles Burton Gaston of Penn Yan.

Brinkman, Richard LaVern - Richard Lavern Brinkman, 68, formerly of Lyons, died January 18, 2000 in California. Dick was born in Lyons on Dec. 6, 1931, the son of Foster and Anna Greenwald Brinkman. He worked in road construction for many years, and had lived in Lyons until 1966, when he moved to California. He served in the U.S. Army from 1949-53. Interment in Rose Cemetery. He is survived by three children, Richard F. Brinkman and Diane (James) Bryant of Lyons, and Todd (Babette) Brinkman of Newark; seven grandchildren, Nicole Karge, Richard II, Christopher Brinkman, Stacey, Melody and Jeremy Van Houte, and Timothy Brinkman; six great-grandchildren.

Edwards, April Lynn - April Lynn Edwards, 21, died January 19, 2000, in Troy, Pennsylvania. Interment in the Fairville Cemetery. April was born May18, 1978, in Sodus, the daughter of Gilbert and Ruby Connolly Edwards. She is survived by her parents; her brother, Gilbert V.; maternal grandparents, Vincent and Janet West of Newark; paternal grandmother, Iona Edwards of Newark; aunts and uncles.

Rich, Geoffrey A. - Geoffrey A. Rich, 50, of Marion, died unexpectedly on January 18, 2000. He is survived by his wife Cathy; children, Jaye Arney, Cristina Rich and Brian Rich; brothers, Terry (Rosie) Rich, Steve (Sue) Rich, William (Norma) Rich, and Michael Rich; and sister Michelle (Rodney) Walker. Mr. Rich founded Coating Technology in 1988 by building plating tanks in his garage. He later made Coating Technology into one of the leading metal-finishing companies in Western New York, employing 30 people.

Powell, Eddie - Eddie Powell, 80, of Palmyra, died January 21, 2000 at Via-Health of Wayne-Newark. Eddie was born Feb. 24, 1919 to James and Henrietta Powell in Cordele, Georgia. He was retired from Seneca Foods in Newark. Interment in East Newark Cemetery. Mr. Powell is survived by 12 children, including Shirley (Bobby) Wooden and Marla (David) Klinger, both of Newark; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

DeWispelaere, Marilyn - Marilyn Wanda DeWispelaere, 62, of Castleton, VA, formerly of Marion, died January 21, 2000, at INOVA-Fairfax Hospital. Marilyn was the manager at a horse farm and was a member of the American Connamara Pony Association, American Horse Show Association, United States Dressage Federation; she was a former member of the United Church of Marion. She is survived by two sons, Dale (D'Orsey) DeWispelaere, of Milford, NH and David DeWispelaere, of West Palm Beach, FL; daughter, Diane (Stephen) Houpt, of Sodus; six grandchildren; brother, Steve Short, of Lake Placid and sister, Marsha Short, of Palmyra. She was predeceased by her father, Albert D. Short, her mother, Hazel Short, and one daughter, Jane DeWispelaere.

Casselman, Kenneth H. - Kenneth H. Casselman, 80, formerly of Newark, died at his home in Orange City, FL on January 14, 2000. Mr. Casselman was born Dec. 20, 1919 in Massena. He had served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II in the Pacific Theater. At one time he had worked for the New York Central Railroad. He was retired from the Newark State School, where he was an electrician. He is survived by four sons, Kenneth L. (Sandra) of Newark, Thomas (Izabella) Casselman of Portsmouth, RI, John (Kim) Casselman of Sauquoit and William (Denise) Casselman of Port Orange, Florida; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three brothers, Howard and Merle of Newark and Leon of Geneva; two sisters, Betty Boughton of Newark and Stella Ward of Geneva; sister-in-law, Shirley Casselman of Newark; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by Elizabeth, his loving wife of 54 years, in 1996; brothers, Robert, William and Jerry; and a sister, Virginia.

Orso, Elizabeth - Elizabeth Orso, 83, of Derby, died January 25, 2000 at the Lakeshore Hospital in Irving. She was born in Rochester on August 31, 1916, to Peter and Catherine Delfel Orso. She is predeceased by her parents, a brother Andrew Orso, and sister Anne Zeger. She is survived by friends in Derby. Interment in East Newark Cemetery.

Snell, Hazel Elizabeth - Hazel Elizabeth Snell, 91, of Newark, died January 27, 2000 at her home on Cobblestone Terrace. Hazel was born in Elmira on February 21, 1908 to Ward and Adelia Whitaker Snell. She came to Newark in 1933. Interment in East Newark Cemetery. Many friends survive Hazel at her home.

Harper, Rose Marie Nye - Rose Marie Nye Harper, 43, of Halton City, Texas, formerly of Romulus, died December 20, 1999, at North Park Manor Nursing Home, after an extended illness. Rose Marie was born May 11, 1956, in Montour Falls. She had served as an activity director for a retirement facility. She is survived by her son, Ronald Bolton of Halton City TX; daughter, Gerrilynn Harper of Halton City, TX; parents, Paul and Ruby St. Germain, of Romulus, and Merle and Liz Nye of Newark; and grandchildren, Lance and Schyler of Halton City, TX.

Boerman, Nettie - Nettie Boerman, 85, died January 26, 2000. Funeral services were held at the East Palmyra Christian Reformed Church. Nettie is survived by four daughters: Elsie (Leonard) Poot of Salem, OR; Esther (Peter) Hutt of Marion; Martha (Richard) Donegan of DeLand, FL; Deborah (Ted) Krebbeks of Newark; 24 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; brother, Cornelius (Frances) Zonneville of Newark; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Abram C. Boerman, and two sons, Roger and David.

Giljam, Norman - Norman R. Giljam, 69, of Belden Ave., Sodus, died at his home on Jan. 28, 2000 after a long illness. Interment will be in Sodus Rural Cemetery. Mr. Giljam is survived by Dwen, his wife of 50 years; two daughters, Cindy (Richard) Tack of Sodus, and Pennie (David) Oliver of New Jersey; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; brother, Kenneth (Deanne) of Nashville, TN; uncle, Fred (Mary) O'Brien of Cleveland, NY; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Eschenmann, Hilda - Hilda D. Eschenmann, 92, of Sodus, formerly of East Union St., Newark, died January 28, 2000 at the Wayne County Nursing Home. Hilda was born in Alloway on March 26, 1907, the daughter of Clinton and Sadie E. Armitage Green Dillingham. She retired in 1963 from the Newark Developmental Center, where she worked for 26 years. She lived in Clyde until 1926, when she moved to Newark. She was a member of St. Michael's Church. Spring burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Clyde. She is survived by John C., her husband of 38 years; daughter, MaryAnn Buisch; good friends, Tommy Tai Wah of Rochester and Kathy Robinson of Newark; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Caster, Gary - Gary Caster, 51, of Port Byron, died suddenly on Monday, Jan. 31, 2000 at Auburn Memorial Hospital. Gary is survived by Deborah, his wife of 12 years; daughter, Patti Schuler of Newark; three grandchildren; three sisters, Shirley (Emmett) Waldron of Savannah, Natalie (Rick) Tenney of Connecticut and Sue (Jim) Clarey of Manlius; brother, Maurice (Kathy) Caster of Lyons; sister-in-law, Kathy Morgan of Penfield; brother-in-law, Steven (Lisa) Morgan of Elbridge; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Bowen, Carlton - Carlton C. Bowen, 79, of Newark, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000 in Hershey, Pennsylvania. Mr. Bowen was born July 25, 1920, in North Volney. He had retired from Garlock Company in 1985. He was a member of the Newark Fire Department, former member of the Palmyra Moose Club and the Citizen Band Radio Club. Spring burial will be in East Palmyra Cemetery. He is survived by his two stepsons, Duane (Marian) Wirth of Williamson and Richard (Sandy) Wirth of Newark; stepdaughter, Donna Wirth of Palmyra; special friend, Lorraine McKinney of Palmyra, PA; several step-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Anna in 1995.

Blankenberg, Florence M. - Florence M. Blankenberg, 78, of Palmyra, died January 29, 2000. Florence served as an Army Nurse during World War II. She is survived by her son, Jim (Karen) Blankenberg; grandchildren, Kathryn and Kelly Blankenberg, Jody (Greg) Poulakis, Tracy Turner; one great-granddaughter; son-in-law, Alton Plumb; extended family, Prinya Plaivech, Nat and Wat Nakvanich; sister, Norma Cook; brother, Mahlon Knapp.

Lasher, John, Jr. - John P. Lasher, Jr., 54, of Marion, died suddenly January 31, 2000. He was a Navy veteran and employee of Toomey Construction Company. He is survived by his daughter, Tracy (Marshall) Brooks of Lakeland, FL; his father, John Lasher of Marion; his sister, Marilyn (Ted) LeClair of Marion; nieces and nephews.

Leenhouts, Lucile - Lucile L. Leenhouts, 73, of East Palmyra, died February 1, 2000 at Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester. Mrs. Leenhouts was born February 27, 1926 in Palmyra, the daughter of Charles and Ethel Love Harris. She was a secretary for more than 30 years with the Newark School District, first at the East Palmyra Elementary School, then moving to the Kelley School when it opened. She retired in July 1990. She was a member of the East Palmyra Presbyterian Church, the East Palmyra Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, and the Arcadia Senior Citizens. She was an active member of the Kountry Kuzzins Square Dance Club. Interment in East Palmyra Cemetery. She is survived by a daughter Karol (Richard) Leeuwen of Palmyra; three sons, Timothy (Susan) of Fairport, Thomas (Debra) of Pittsford and Jeffrey (Susan) of Clinton, CT; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter, Jordan; brother, Ralph (Martha) Harris of Penn Yan; and a special friend, Robert Miles of Newark. She was predeceased by her husband, Jacob, in 1980 and a sister, Thelma Petrosino.

Keesler, Shiela M. - Shiela M. Keesler, 52, of Phelps, died February 2, 2000, at Clifton Springs Hospital & Clinic. Shiela was born Sept. 4, 1947 in Clifton Springs, the daughter of the Francis and Margaret Austin Henry. She was a member of the Hopewell Clowns and the Clowns of America. She was a past member of the Phelps Business and Professional Women and also was named B.P.W. Woman of the Year. Shiela had volunteered for many organizations dealing with the elderly and special needs children. She is survived by her husband, Bill Keesler and her sons, Keith and Kevin; sister, Wilma (Bob) Holtz of Shortsville; and brothers, Wesley (Linda) Utter of Newark, Kip (Christine) Utter of Phelps and Robert Merithew of Virginia. She was predeceased by her parents, Francis and Margaret Henry; and her stepmother, Joyce Henry Utter.

Neil, Scott Granville - Scott Granville Neil, 46, of Alpharetta, GA, died January 29, 2000 from liver cancer, with his wife at his side. Scott grew up in Russellville, KY. He was a graduate of the University of Kentucky and Harvard Business School. Scott was a Senior VP of Marketing with Bank of America in Charlotte, NC. He loved golf, University of Kentucky basketball, and his home and farnily. Interment in Newark Cemetery. Newark is his wife's hometown, where he and Nancy were married 21 years ago. Scott is survived by his wife Nancy (Schmidt) Neil, and his children Robyn and Lesley. His mother, Alice, and father, Gilbert, preceded him in death. He leaves behind many cousins, aunts, two nephews and in-laws.

Lewis, Doris L. - Doris L. Lewis, 71, formerly of Alton and Cuba, died February 6, 2000, at Deaconess Skilled Nursing Facility in Buffalo. Interment in Port Allegheny, PA. She is survived by two sons, Charles V. (Alice) Lewis of North Rose and Vern A. Lewis of Newark; daughter, Palma J. Lewis of Clyde; step-son, Bud Budinger and step-daughter Marie Belec; 9 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, Harold Budinger of Belmont and sister, Jerry-ann (Dean) Hedtke of California.

Laties, Ruth - Ruth Laties, 91, of Newark, died February 5, 2000, at DeMay Living Center in Newark. Interment in Boughton Hill Cemetery, Victor. She is survived by her daughter, Lucille (John) Campbell of Newark; two grandchildren, Beckie (Tim) Wavrick, and William Holtz of Houston, Texas; three great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Potter of Millville, PA; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Paul, and a grandson, Barry Holtz.

Sharett, Beatrice - Beatrice Sharett, 69, of Marion, died February 6, 2000. Interment in Marion Cemetery. She is survived by two daughters, Kathy (Steve) Frank of Henrietta and Cherie (Wayne) Riker of Williamson; two sons, Donald (Ann) and Daniel (Elizabeth) all of Marion; 10 grandchildren; one great grandchild; two brothers, Robert Brunke of Dansville and Raymond Brunke of CA; three sisters, Patricia Holtz of OR, Carolyn Hohnson of Livonia and Helen Home of Seneca Falls; nieces and nephews.

Matthys, Robert 'Peanuts' - Robert 'Peanuts' Matthys, 70, of Lyons, died February 4, 2000, at ViaHealth of Wayne-Newark Campus after an extended illness. Bob was born in Newark, one of 13 children to Edmond and Eliza Pratt Matthys on April 12, 1929. Their family migrated from Belgium in 1917 to the New York state area. He was a veteran in the Army, serving in the Korean conflict. Interment in South Lyons Cemetery in the spring. He is survived by his wife, Lucile Wallace Matthys of Lyons; three sons, Mike (Patty) and Eric (Maxine), both of Lyons and Ronald of Herkimer County; daughter, Danya Matthys of Lyons; four grandchildren, Michael, Nicole, Heather and Britnie; great-grandson, Shawn Michael; brother, Gerald (Ann) Matthys of Lyons; three sisters, Margret DeMay of Palmyra, Julie Woodhams of Phelps and Rose Bouwens of Newark; many nieces, nephews and friends. Bob was preceded in death by his brothers, Louis, Charles, Henry, Armar, Levinus, David and Edmond Jr.; and one sister, Louisa.

Hudson, Mary - Mary Hudson, 95, died February 7, 2000, at the DeMay Living Center in Newark. Mrs. Hudson was born April 25, 1904 in Baltimore, Maryland, to John and Mary Arthur Manion. She had lived in Manchester for many years, moving to Newark in 1959. She had worked for the Lehigh Valley Railroad, the C.H. Stuart, Inc., and had retired from Jackson & Perkins in 1969. Interment in St. Rose Cemetery in Shortsville. She is survived by her two daughters, Patricia (Wes) Merriam of East Montpelier, Vermont and Margaret (Lee) Johnson of Phelps; six grandchildren, Wayne (Jill) Sweet, Bob, Tom (Tammy) and Lisa Merriam, Kathleen (John) Duchesneau and Frederick (Laurie) Johnson; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Elizabeth Manion of Syracuse; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Milton, on Jan. 20, 1958; by their son, John F., who died on the USS Thresher SSN in April 1963; and eight brothers and sisters.

Plummer, William F. - William F. Plummer, 87, of Marion, died February 7, 2000. He was a retired Duffy-Mott employee and a farmer. Interment in Marion Cemetery. He is survived by a brother, Roy Plummer of Massachusetts; sister, Mary Jane Mundy of Wolcott; in-laws, John and Josephine Romack; two nephews, John Romack of Marion and James Romack of Ithaca. He was predeceased by his wife, Sophia.

Stubbings, Lawrence - Lawrence Stubbings, 79, of Fairport, died February 7, 2000. He was a WWII Army Veteran and a retired Gleason employee. Interment in Marion Cemetery. Lawrence is survived by his wife, Viola Pembroke Stubbings; daughter, Shirley (William) Ebner of Palmyra; son, Dennis of Queensbury, NY; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren.

Earl H. Clicquennoi - Earl H. Clicquennoi, 88, formerly of Newark, died February 10, 2000 at the Wayne County Nursing Home. Interment at Sodus Rural Cemetery. He is survived by his son, Curtis (Eileen) of Ellicot City, MD; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Louise in 1973.

Ralph D. Sessions - Ralph D. Sessions, 88, of Newark, died February 10, 2000 at the Newark Manor Nursing Home. He was born Dec. 4, 1911, in Palmyra, the son of Ralph and Charlotte Sawyer Sessions. He had been a member of the Zion Episcopal Church in Palmyra and St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Newark. Before retiring, he had been a sales representative in the canning business in Andover, Massachusetts, and for Edgett & Burnham in Newark. He was a graduate of Staunton Military School of Virginia and St. Lawrence University in 1935 and had served as an officer in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He was a member of the Newark Country Club and Newark Elks Lodge 1249. Interment in Newark Cemetery. He is survived by his two daughters, Susan Zuccotti of Brooklyn and Jane Kiernan of Pultneyville; twin sons, Ralph of Manhattan and Glen of Sao Paulo, Brazil; and six grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Jane in 1994; and two sisters, Barbara Dill and Florence Moseley.

Cindy Lee Ludolph - Cindy Lee Ludolph, of Utica/Palmyra, died suddenly on February 5, 2000. She is survived by her son, Scott (Leigh) Ludolph of Palmyra; three grandchildren; her mother, Nancy (Lloyd) MacLean of Marion; sister, Rebecca (Bruce) Blackman of Pittsford; brother, Eugene (Maddy) East of Marion; aunt, Bonnie (Harry) Weise of Penfield; nephew, George Blackman; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Mollie R. Nicoletta - Mollier R. Nicolotta, 92, formerly of Clyde, died February 13, 2000, at the Newark Manor Nursing Home, at age 92. She was born on November 14, 1907 in Lyons, to Salvatore and Cecelia Marcelima DeVito. She was married to Domonic Nicoletta on April 23, 1927 in St. Michael's Church, Lyons. Mollie was a longtime Clyde resident. She was a member of St. John's Church and a retiree of Newark DDSO. She was an ordinance handler at the Seneca Army Depot during World War II. Interment in St. John's Cemetery in the spring. Mollie is survived by a daughter, Alice Chasse of Newark; daughters-in-law, Mary Alice Nicoletta of Newark and Mary Zita Nicoletta of Olean; 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by husband Domonic in 1988, and by her sons, Dr. Robert Nicoletta of Newark in 1980, and Edward Nicoletta of Olean in 1997.

Lillian G. Exton - Lillian G. Exton, 88, of Williamson, died Feb. 9, 2000. Spring Interment, Marion Cemetery. Susie Kommer - Susie Kommer, 89, of Lyons/Newark, died Thursday February 10, 2000, at Via Health of Wayne, Newark Campus. She was born April 26, 1910, in Walworth, the daughter of Herbert and Elizabeth Fremouw Vanderlyke. Interment will be in Fairville Cemetery. She is survived by her children, James (Phyllis) of Lyons, Betty (William Sinack) Taney of Phelps, Dorothy (Lawrence) Perry of Lyons, Chris (Marilyn) of Newark, Marjorie Porter of Lyons and Janice Case of Newark; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Marie Feiock of Rochester, Margaret Brown of Canandaigua and Elizabeth Eckert of Lyons; three brothers, Harold and Howard Vanderlyke of Lyons and Herbert Vanderlyke of Palmyra; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Chris in 1986; and two grandsons, Mark Perry and Todd Case.

Richard C. Reeves 'Dick' - Richard Charles Reeves, 72, of Newark, died February 14, 2000 at the De.May Living Center. Dick was born in Newark on Septbmer 18, 1927 to Cuyler and Marion Caukins Reeves. Dick graduated from Newark High School in 1944. He retired from C.H. Stuart Co. after 32 years and then worked for Wayne Drugs for nine years. Dick was a member of the Park Presbyterian Church and the Masonic Lodge No. 83. F. & A.M. He was a past member of the Newark Elks Lodge. The Navy flag flies at the funeral home in honor of his service during World War II. Interment in East Palmyra Cemetery. Dick is survived by his wife of 48 years, Elizabeth 'Betty' (Morrow) Reeves; daughter and son-in-law Terri and Jack Skinner of Newark; grandchildren, Christopher Reeves, Travis Skinner and Cody Skinner; sister Joyce Deming of Illinois; one niece, and two nephews; special friend, Carmen Harrison of Clifton Springs.

Dorothy Redmond - Dorothy Redmond, 81, of Lyons/Phelps, died at her home on February 15, 2000. Interment this spring at Riverview Cemetery in Phelps. Dorothy is survived by her friends and caregivers, Ed and Kathy Nicholson; friends, Erma Leggett, Jon McInnis, Hazel Goodrich and Sheryl Opdyke, and many friends.

Scott, B. David - B. David 'Dave' Scott died February 24, 2000 at his 204 Mason Street home. He was 85. Interment in the spring at Big Flats Rural Home Cemetery. David was born September 22, 1914 in Elmira, to B.D. and Beatrix Bowman Scott. He attended Elmira Free Academy and Simmons College of Mortuary Science in Syracuse. He and his wife Alice purchased the Stuerwald Funeral Home at 124 West Miller St. in April 1953 from Fred Stuerwald after being associated in business with him for about two years. Mr. Scott was a past officer of the 8th District Funeral Directors Association and Past President of the Wayne County Health and TB Association. He was also a member of the Newark Masonic Lodge and Rotary Club with perfect attendance for more than 38 years. He was awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship. He was a member of the Park Presbyterian Church and Newark Country Club. Dave and Alice Scott maintained a home in Bradenton, Florida, where they attended the Westminster Presbyterian Church. Mr. Scott is survived by his wife of 57 years, Alice Lockner Scott; son, David B. Scott of Penfield; and many friends in the Newark-Arcadia area.

Lemerle, Charles 'Charlie' - Charlie Lemerle, 97, of Newark, died February 24, 2000 at Via-Health Newark Campus. Charlie was born in New York City on Feb. 15, 1901 to Lewis and Carrie Abrams Lemerle. Charlie loved his church and was a great gardener. Interment, East Newark Cemetery. He is survived by many friends in Newark.

Piekunka, Joseph - Joseph Henry Piekunka, 82, of Sodus, died Feb. 26, 2000 at Newark Campus/Wayne ViaHealth. He is survived by his wife, Regina; daughter, Mary Ann (John) Coniff of Utica; brother, Ernie (Mary) of Sodus; step-children, Richard (Betty) Lowley and Linda (Russell) Millspaw all of Sodus; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Interment in Sodus Rural Cemetery.

Shaw, Cheryl - Cheryl M. Shaw, 38, of Sodus, died at Blossom View Nursing Home February 25, 2000. Cattieu, Robert F. - Robert F. Cattieu, 79, of Palmyra, died February 27, 2000. He was predeceased by his wife, Kathleen M. Cattieu. He is survived by his children, Robert P. (Linda) Cattieu and Kathleen A. Cattieu; grandchildren, Robin, Kristin, Brandon; several nieces and nephews.

Allerton, Alice (Holly) M. - Alice (Holly) M. Allerton, 77, of Dade City, Florida, died February 13, 2000 at the Pasco Rehabilitation Center, Dade City, Florida. Alice was born in Palmyra, on December 5, 1922, a daughter to Alice and Harris Allerton. She was employed at the Newark Developmental Center, Garlock and The Pee Wee Restaurant. Surviving are two sisters, Agnes Ferland of Newark and Kate Borneman of Oregon; sister-in-law, Louise Allerton of Newark; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond Mitchell and brother, Robert Allerton. Interment in the spring at the Newark Cemetery.

Pangburn, Lori L. - Lori L. Pangburn, 35, of Lyons, died March 3, 2000, at Rochester General Hospital. Lori was born in Newark, on Dec. 2, 1964, to Robert and Claire Fischette Snell. She was a graduate of Lyons High School and received her Associate's degree in human services at Finger Lakes Community College. She was employed at Finger Lakes Developmental Disabilities Service Office (DDSO) as a home supervisor in the Waterloo residence. Interment will be at South Lyons Cemetery. Surviving are her husband, James; daughter, Brittany; her parents, Robert and Claire Snell of Lyons; two brothers, Daniel Snell of Lyons and Joseph (Lynn) Snell of Lyons; niece, Meghan; several cousins, aunts and uncles.

Bagne, Dolores - Dolores Bagne, 65, of Walworth, died March 3, 2000. She was a retired Rochester Supreme Court Clerk. She is survived by her husband, Russell; two daughters, Kathleen Morse of Palmyra and Lori (Daniel) Bush of Newark; son, Michael (Cathy) Bagne of Walworth; 8 grandchildren; her mother, Catherine Hunter of Rochester; brother, Ernest (Gail) Schulze of Rochester; nieces and nephews.

Quigley, Donald E. - Donald Eugene Quigley, 53, of Newark, died March 4, 2000 at Highland Hospital in Rochester after a long illness. Don was born to Donald F. and Ella Mae VanHorn Quigley on May 21, 1946 in Rochester. He was a member of VFW, American Legion and the Moose Lodge, all in Palmyra. He served as with the Marine Corps in Vietnam, 1966-67. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart. Interment will take place in the spring at Port Gibson Cemetery. Don is survived by his devoted wife Kathy Teeter Quigley; son Robert (Kamala) Quigley of Palmyra; daughter, Katrina Quigley of Newark; father, Donald F. Quigley of Palmyra; brothers, Leonard (Rose) of Clyde, Richard (Barb) of Clifton Springs and David (Shirley) Quigley of Ontario; sisters, Judy (Bill) Lincoln, Dianne Winston and Vickie (Lloyd) Jock all of Palmyra; nieces and nephews. Don was predeceased by his son Scott in 1979, mother Ella Mae and brother Larry.

Mayo, James - James E. Mayo, 72, of Newark, died March 1, 2000, at Via Health of Wayne, Newark Campus. Mr. Mayo was born June 9, 1927 in Romulus, the son of Albert and Lillian Buckley Mayo. He had worked for the Newark Developmental Center for 20 years; he was a heavy equipment operator. Jim had been a self-employed roofer and the owner/operator of Mayo Trailer Park in Newark. During World War II, Jim proudly served his country with the U.S. Marines in the Pacific Theater. He is a life member of the Arcadia Post 2883, Veterans of Foreign Wars and had also been a member of the August Mauer Post 286, American Legion and the Palmyra Moose Lodge. Interment in Newark Cemetery with full military rites accorded. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Burm Mayo; son, Randy (Deborah) Mayo; grandsons, R.J. Mayo II and Sham James Mayo, all of Newark; two sisters, Laura Turo of Savannah and Ruth Turo of King Ferry: and many nieces and nephews.

VerPlank, Josiah - Josiah 'Si' VerPlank, 83, of Marion, died March 5, 2000. He was a retired farmer, a Marion school bus driver and a WWII Army veteran. He was a member of the Fire Dept. and the Second Reformed Church. Spring interment in the Marion Cemetery. Gotshall, Eleanor - Eleanor J. Gotshall, 68, of Palmyra, died March 3, 2000, in ViaHealth of Wayne-Newark Campus. Interment in East Bloomfield Cemetery. She was predeceased by her sisters, Loraine Ellis and Louella McGory.

Truini, Richard - Richard C. Truini, 82, of Newark, died March 5, 2000 at Via Health of Wayne, Newark Campus. Dick was born Sept. 4, 1917 in Newark, the son August and Mary Toti Truini. He was a service engineer for more than 37 years with Fold Pak, retiring in 1984. He was a 1935 graduate of Newark High School and a graduate of the Mechanic's Institute (R.I.T.), in Rochester. He was a communicant of St. Michael Church. He had been a member of the Newark Country Club, the Newark Elks Lodge, the Palmyra Moose Lodge, and the Hobo's of America. Dick loved cabinet making and working with wood. Interment in Newark Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Josephine, with whom he would have been married 57 years; son, Richard J. (Jeanne) of Pittsford; two daughters, Monica (Gene) Della Pietra of Pittsford and Mary Beth Truini of Penn Yan; six grandchildren, Richard, Jennifer and Mark Della Pietra and Andrea, Sara and Daniel Truini; brother, Carl (Eleanor) of Webster; sister, Betty (Frank) Scalise of Newark; nieces ahd nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; by sisters, Rose Alvaro and Lena Cinquegrana; and a brother, August Truini.

Petitti, Louise - Louise M. Petitti, 81, of Newark, died March 2, 2000 at Clifton Springs Hospital. Louise was born April 30, 1918 in Clyde, daughter of Joseph and Grace Fischette Buttaccio. She retired from Hallagan Manufacturing in Newark, with 23 years of service. She was a member of St. Michael Church. She is survived by her husband, Michael; daughter, Judy (Bela) Szilagyi of Newark; grandson, Michael; sister, Mary Santelli of Lyons; several nieces and nephews; several grandnieces and grandnephews. Interment in East Newark Cemetery.

Smith, Ida Elaine - Ida 'Elaine' Smith, 60, of Newark, formerly of Clifton Springs, passed away peacefully at her home on March 2, 2000. She was born Sept. 12, 1939 in Clifton Springs, to Bud and Dorothy Farnsworth. She was a 1957 graduate of Clifton Springs High School. Interment in Pioneer Cemetery in Shortsville. She is survived by four daughters, Kim (Bob) Walker of Clifton Springs, Joette (Tony) Colucci of Virginia, Lisa Collett of Shortsville Jill Trask of Newark; her mother, Dorothy Farnsworth of Clifton Springs; eight grandchildren; sister, Betty Gail (Bob) Mays of Vermont; two special friends, Newton Smith and Francis Bruni; several nieces and nephews.

Debs, Edward G., Jr. - Edward G. Debs, Jr., 48, of Farmington, died March 7, 2000. He was born in Worcester, MA, and was a graduate of Shrewsbury High School in 1969. He earned his B.S. from the University of Massachusetts, his Master's from SUNY Oswego, and Ph.D. from SUNY Binghamton. He was presently a Psychologist for Finger Lakes Developmental Disability Services Office in Newark. Spring interment in St. Patrick's Cemetery. Maugiri, Anthony D., Sr. - Anthony D. Maugiri Sr., 80, of Newark, died Friday, March 10, 2000, at Clifton Springs Hospital. Anthony was born in Geneva, Feb. 6, 1920, the son of Dominic and Margaret Legott Maugiri. A self-employed painter, he and his wife Margaret operated Edwards Paint Store in Newark for more than 29 years. He was a World War II hero who fought with the 101st Airborne. He was a member of St. Michael's Church, a member of August Mauer Post 286 of the American Legion, and Arcadia Memorial VFW Post 2883, and of the Upstate Chapter of the 101st Airborne. Interment in Newark Cemetery with full military rites accorded at the grave. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Susan) Bunce and Diane Maugiri of Newark; two sons, Donald (Eleanor) of Newark and Anthony Jr. (Carol) of Longview, Texas; 11 grandchildren; two sisters, Genevieve Ricci of Newark and Rose Smith of Geneva; special friend, Arline Bethkavsky; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased in 1988 by his wife, Margaret.

Scott, Jamie - Jamie Scott, 20, of Palmyra, died March 11, 2000, in a car accident. Jamie was an employee of McLouth Chevrolet. He is survived by his mother, Tammy Scott and friend Tim Perry; girlfriend, Leslie Catchman; grandparents, Harold and Sandy Scott of Palmyra; aunts and uncles, Cindy and Rick Ebert of Macedon, Terri Scott of Palmyra, Dale and Donna Scott of Madrid and David Scott of Palmyra; great-aunts, great-uncles, cousins and many friends. Hughes, Elias, Jr. - Elias 'Bud' Hughes, Jr., 74, of Newark died March 11, 2000 at the Wayne County Nursing Home in Lyons. Interment in Newark Cemetery. Mr. Hughes was born October 23, 1925 in Shickshinny, Pennsylvania, the son of Elias and Viola Killian Hughes, Sr. He was a graduate of Shickshinny High School and a 1946 graduate of Penn State. Bud was the manager of accounting at Beechnut Company in Canajoharie, NY for 13 years. In 1971, he moved to Newark, where he was comptroller for Comstock Foods, a Division of Curtice Burns until his retirement on December 31, 1986. He was a member and had served on the board of trustees of the First United Methodist Church. He had also served on the Advisory Committee of the Chase Lincoln Bank of Wayne County. Bud was a 50-year member of the Canajoharie Masonic Lodge and a member of the Newark Country Club. He is survived by his wife Beverly; two daughters, Karen (Kevin) Fowler of Canajoharie and Linda (Fred) Fitze of Rochester; son, Thomas (Karen) of Newark; four grandchildren, Ryan and Gregory Hughes, Kyle Fowler and Kamille Logan; and three great-grandchildren. Bud was predeceased by his parents, grandson Kevin Fowler, and sister Jane Martini.

Phillips, Dorothy - Dorothy Phillips, 77, of Newark, died March 14, 2000 at the Wayne County Nursing Home in Lyons. Mrs. Phillips was born July 23, 1922 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Harvey and Bessie Masshold Hillegiss. Dorothy was a member of the Palmyra Moose Club. Interment in the Ridge Chapel Cemetery, Williamson. She is survived by her husband of 14 years, Edwin; four daughters, Linda (Jerry) Julius of Wolcott, Gail (Bill) Draper of Livonia, Becky (Harry) Hilbert of Webster and June (Bill) Brunswick of Williamson; son, Walter (Mary) Cameron of Honoeye; grandchildren and great grandchildren; step-children, Carol De Roo, Edwin (Sue) Phillips, Jr. and Linda (Joel) Hixson, all of Newark; several nieces and nephews.

Hendershot, Doris Elaine - Doris Elaine Hendershot, 69, of Nunda, died March 13, 2000. Doris was born on January 1, 1931 in Nunda, to Leon and Doris Rathbun-Wood. She worked as a switchboard operator at Craig Colony. She was a member of the Dalton United Methodist Church & Women's Society. Doris is survived by two daughters, Cheryl (Kevin) Gaby of Dalton and Linda (David) Seward of Corfu; two sons, Kenneth (Debra) Hendershot of Nunda and Donald (Gayle) Hendershot of Newark; 16 grand children; one great-grandson; brother, Warren (Esther) Wood of Dalton; sister, Marion (Samuel) Monteleone of Perry; nieces and nephews.

Douglass, Linda Susan Morse - Linda Susan Morse Douglass, 41, of Horseheads, formerly of Marion, died March 15, 2000. Linda was born October 26, 1958 in Syracuse, the daughter of Nelson and Vivian Wilkins Morse. She received her Associate's Degree in Art from The Community College of The Finger Lakes in 1979 and her Bachelor of Science Degree in Music Education from Nazareth College in 1981. She married Martin J. Douglass on June 5, 1982 and was the mother of five children. Rather than pursue a career in public education, Linda chose to stay at home to teach her own children. She was a devoted member of The Maranatha Bible Chapel in Horseheads. Interment in Maple Grove Cemetery in Horseheads. She is survived by her husband, Martin J. Douglass; her children, Susan, Sarah Ruth, Rebekah, James, and Seth, all at home; mother, Vivian Wilkins Morse of Newark; father, Nelson Morse of Newark; sisters, Cheryl Morse of Newark, Sandra (Russell) Carlson of Newark, Patricia (Richard) Betine of Colorado, Dawn (David) Comden of Hilton, and Donna (Scott) Francis of Marion; and brother, Ronald Morse of Palmyra.

Bender, Eva Mae - Eva Mae Bender, 73, formerly of Newark, died Friday, March 17, 2000 at the Wayne County Nursing Home. Mrs. Bender was born the daughter of Henry and Dora Willover in Hindale, NY, on March 29, 1926. Interment in the spring at the Lyons Rural Cemetery. She is survived by her husband Frank Bender; her daughter and son-in-law Mary and Eric Dizmang of Newark; grandchildren, David, Shane, and Cody; brothers, Clayton (Dorothy) Williams, Donald (Joyce) Williams and Robert (Jean) Williams; sisters, Thelma (Raymond) Gayheart, Valma Montgomery, and Carol (Kenneth) Gayheart; aunts, Nellie DeWilde, and Ella Osborne; many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Bender was predeceased by brother Kenneth Goulde, and her sister, Gertrude Pickering.

Teeter, Maurice - Maurice Teeter, age 78, of Homosassa, Florida and Palmyra, died Sunday, March 5, 2000 at his daughter's home in Florida after a long illness. Mr. Teeter was born in Cherry Township in Pennsylvania. He moved to Florida 24 years ago after retiring as a machine operator from Garlock Corp. in Palmyra. The funeral home flew the Army flag in honor of his service to our country during World War II. Interment at Port Gibson Cemetery. Mr. Teeter is survived by his four daughters, Nancy (Elbert) Goodman of Homosassa, FL, Kathy Quigley of Newark, Marlene Knorr of Penn Yan, and Heather (Richard) Yonker of Lyons; two brothers, Kelsey Teeter of Wilmington, NC, and Joseph Teeter of Cato, NY; sister, Mildred Marquart of Penfield; six grandchildren. Prutzman, Bonnie J. - Bonnie J. Prutzman, 25, of Newark, and formerly of Hamburg, PA, died March 16, 2000 at Rochester General at Rochester General Hospital. She died as a result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident on March 16 in Lyons. Born in West Reading, PA, she was the daughter of Carl R. Prutzman, Hamburg and Gloria J. (Berger) Wisser, Hamburg. Bonnie was a 1992 graduate of Hamburg Area High School. She was a Certified Nurses Aide working for the New York State Department of Health at Finger Lakes Developmental Disabilities Services Offices, Phelps, for three years. She also worked for Nurse Finders, a nursing placement agency. In addition to her parents, she is survived by brother Carl R. Prutzman II, Bernville, PA; step-sister Kimberly S. Wisser, Exeter Twp., PA; step-father Barry N. Wisser, Hamburg; maternal grandparents Lester W. and Janet A. (Wolf) Berger, Hamburg; paternal grandfather Leroy C. Prutzman, Hamburg.

Beal, Marian F. - Marian F. Beal, 79, of Levitttown, PA, formerly of Newark, died March 17, 2000 in Langhorne, PA. Marian was born in Newark, the daughter of Charles Henry and M. Grace Smallidge Berger. She was the salutatorian of the Class of 1939 of Newark High School. She was a former member of the Park Presbyterian Church and was a resident of Levittown, PA, for the last 45 years. Interment will be in East Newark Cemetery. She is survived by her son, William (Nancy) Beal of Levittown, PA; a daughter, Grace M. McCoy of Green Lane, PA; and a granddaughter, Sara. She was predeceased by a son, Lawrence Foster.

Cline, Gerald D. - Gerald D. Cline, 73, of Ridge Rd., Sodus, died March 20, 2000, at the ViaHealth of Wayne, Myers Campus. Mr. Cline was a World War II veteran. He was employed at Cadbury Schweppes in Williamson for 23 years. Interment will be in the Huron Evergreen Cemetery. Martin, Kathleen W. - Kathleen W. Martin, 84, of Marion, died March 20, 2000, at the Lakeshore Nursing Home in Rochester. She was a nurse in the Army Air Force during WWII. Interment in Sunnyside Cemetery, Williamson. She is survived by her son, Owen Chauncey (Paula) Payne of Palmyra; daughter, Suzanne Zartman of Rochester; seven grandchildren; brother, Jerry Zartman of Medford, OR; sisters, Betty Biedel of California, Bobbie (William) Musselwhite of NC; nieces and nephews.

Roscoe, Aurora R. - Aurora R. Roscoe, 90, of Newark, died March 21, 2000 at the Via Health of Wayne, Newark campus. Mrs. Roscoe was born April 18, 1909 in San Angelo, Texas, the daughter of John and Louise Reese. For many years, she worked in the custodial services for the Newark School District, retiring in 1975. She was a member of St. Michael's Church. Interment in the Newark Cemetery. She is survived by good friends and several of her beloved pets. She was predeceased by her husband, Louis and a son, John Louis Roscoe.

Vanderbrook, Charlotte - Charlotte Vanderbrook, 92, of Newark, died March 23, 2000, at the Wayne County Nursing Home in Lyons. Mrs. Vanderbrook, nee Charlotte Elizabeth Sutphen, was born July 9, 1907, in Lowville, the daughter of Thaddeus and Clara Rose Segovis Sutphen. Her siblings included one sister, three brothers and two half-brothers. She arrived in Newark when she was 10 years old to live with her Aunt Dora and Uncle Fred Van Waggoner. She was educated at Newark High School and was a 1930 graduate of Nazareth College. After graduation she became a supervisor with the New York Telephone Co. in Clyde. In 1935 she married Clarence A. Vanderbrook, a graduate of Cornell University and an employee of C. W. Stuart Co. They raised four daughters, living most of their married life on Lillie Street in Newark. Starting in 1958, she was employed by St. Michael School as a remedial reading consultant. She was a communicant of St. Michael's Church and a member of the Rosary and Altar Society. In the 1970's she volunteered much time to the Newark State School as a religious instruction teacher. She was a longtime member of the Newark Country Club. Interment in Newark Cemetery. She is survived by four daughters: Marcia Joan (Fritz) Bailey and Julia Lynn Vanderbrook of Plymouth, MA; Karen Lee Vanderbrook and Rita Fay (Jim) Weiler of Newark; seven grandchildren; three great-grand children; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Clarence in 1976, by three brothers and a sister. Charlotte was a kind, generous and tolerant person, the embodiment of Christian beliefs.

Quigley, Donald F. - Donald F. Quigley, 81, of Palmyra, died March 25, 2000. He was a WWII Veteran. Interment in Palmyra Cemetery. Survived by three daughters: Judy (William) Lincoln, Diane Winston, Vicki (Lloyd) Jock, all of Palmyra; three sons - Leonard (Rose) of Clyde, Richard (Barbara) of Clifton Springs, David (Shirley) of Ontario, and a daughter-in-law, Kathy Quigley of Newark; grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by wife Jane and sons Donald and Larry.

VanHee, Jeanne E. - Jeanne E. VanHee, 75, died March 23, 2000. She was a retired secretary of Rumrill-Hoyt Co. Interment at Mt. Hope Cemetery. She was a niece of Ruth Smith. She was an aunt of Gloria (Timothy) McClements, Carrie Ferre, Mary (James) Quinn, Kathy (James) Finch, William (Violette) Thomas, William (Virginia) VanHee, Marcia (Gerald) Fromm, Leslie (Douglas) Bull, and Jane VanHee; and several grandnieces and nephews.

Miller, Charles B. Jr. - Charles B. Miller, Jr., 72, of Marion, died March 26, 2000 at his home. Mr. Miller was in the Army Signal Corps and served his country. Interment in Sodus Rural Cemetery with full military honors. He is survived by his wife. Elizabeth M. (Drew); daughters Christine, Grace, Wilma, Marion and Faith; sons, James, Michael, Charles, Thomas; sisters, Mary, Celia and Geraldine; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

VanBortel, Margaret N. - Margaret N. Van Bortel, 99, formerly of Palmyra, died March 27, 2000 at the Newark Manor Nursing Home. Margaret was born December 10, 1901 in Walworth to John and Cornelia De Neering Blankenberg. For many years, she worked as a lunch monitor for the Palmyra School District. She was a member of the Palmyra Reformed Church. Margaret was also active in the Palmyra Chapter of Order of the Eastern Star, the Kings Daughters, the Home Bureau, Historic Palmyra and the Foster Grandparent Program. Interment in Palmyra Cemetery. She is survived by her daughters Muriel (Raymond) White of Punta Gorda, FL and Felicia McCord of Newark, son James (Bonnie) Van Bortel of Glen Ellyn, III, daughter in law Dorothy VanBortel of Rye, NY; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Marvin in 1978, her son Francis, and five sisters.

Veley, Stanley E. - Stanley E. Veley, 70, formerly of Wolcott, died March 27, 2000 at the Syracuse VA Medical Center. Stanley was born the son of Elmer and Blanche Davis Veley in Lyons on June 3, 1929. The funeral home proudly flies the Marine Corps flag in honor of his service to our country. Interment in Huron Evergreen Cemetery. Stanley is survived by his sister, Joyce Wiltsie of Newark; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, two sisters, Jean Marie Veley in 1934 and Doris Schultz in 1984.

Manktelow, James L. - James L. Manktelow, 84, of Williamson and Winter Haven, Florida, died March 27, 2000. He was a veteran and POW during World War II. He had owned and operated Jim's Garage in Williamson. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Newark. He was a 50-year member of the Pultneyville Masonic Lodge, member of Williamson American Legion and Williamson Fire Co. Interment, Lake View Cemetery, Pultneyville. He is survived by his wife Doris (Ghyzels-Mason) Manktelow; son, Glenn (Sandra) Manktelow of Sodus; brothers, Maurice of Newark, Stanley of Williamson, Frederick (Arlene) of Marion, Burt (Ruby) of Ontario; sisters, Una Pembroke of Fairport, Dorothy Manktelow of Williamson; brothers-in-law, Ellis Stanford of Rochester, Walter (Jane) Ghyzels of Williamson; sisters-in-law, Evelyn (Lyle) Verdine of Williamson, June Manklelow of Fairport; nieces, nephews and cousins. Sherman, Mildred - Mildred Sherman, 83, of Wolcott/ Newark, died March 26 2000. Interment at the Marion Cemetery. She and her husband used to live in the Hydesville area. She is survived by one daughter, Theresa Darling of Lyons; one brother, John Riesdorph. She was predeceased by her husband, Jefferson.

Bloomer, Anna - Anna D. Bloomer, 58, of Interlaken, died March 28, 2000, at the House of John in Clifton Springs. Anna was born June 30, 1942 in Brooklyn, the daughter of Frank and Stella Fiorello DeFiore. She had worked at the Seneca Knitting Mill in Seneca Falls and at Terry's Diner in Interlaken. Interment will be in Rose Cemetery. Anna is survived by her sons, Keith (Tammy) of Clyde, Franklin Jr. (Camella) of Geneva and Charles (Kelly) of Newark; daughter, Melissa (Cliff Mayo III) Bloomer of Newark; two brothers, Anthony DeFiore of Staten Island and Dominic DeFiore of Brooklyn; 13 grandchildren; sister, Vivian Ceravello of Brooklyn; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Franklin Sr. in 1994.

VerPlank, Abram - Abram VerPlank, 87, of Marion, died March 29, 2000. He was a farmer all his life, and a member of the Second Reformed Church of Marion. He loved and enjoyed his life's work on the farm. Interment in the Marion Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Caroline; daughter, Laura; sons, Charles (June) VerPlank and Roger (Marcia) VerPlank, both of Marion; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; brother, William VerPlank; nieces and nephews.

Smith, Francis 'Pat' - Francis 'Pat' Smith, 86, of Bartle Avenue, Newark, died March 29, 2000 at Clifton Springs Hospital. Interment in East Newark Cemetery. Pat was born August 2, 1913 in Oswego, the son of Charles and Mary Welch Smith. He was raised in Red Creek. For 10 years, he worked for Comstock Foods, before becoming head of the State Civil Defense Agency in 1943. He worked for Jackson & Perkins and retired from Sarah Coventry in 1978. He was a communicant of St. Michael's Church and a member of the Newark Council #897 Knights of Columbus. For years, Pat was the volunteer district coordinator of the A.A.R.P. income tax program. He served on the committee that founded the Newark-Arcadia Volunteer Ambulance and served as its treasurer. Pat was a member and treasurer of the Country Club. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ann 'Betty' Kelly Smith; daughters, Mary Elizabeth Smith of Newark, and Susan (Robert C.) Hartman of Palmyra; and a son, David of Derry, New Hampshire; two grandchildren, Kerry (Dominic) Vitaro and Charles R. (Juli) Hartman; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, and brothers, Charles and John.

Curtis, Margaret - Margaret Curtis was born September 23, 1905 to Scott B. and Nellie (Sherwood) Curtis in their home at 3758 Mill Street, Marion. Margaret lived in that home until, her move on January 22, 1997 to the Fairport Baptist Home. Scott B. Curtis married Nellie Sherwood at the Sherwood ancestral home, 3021 Sherwood Road, Marion, on November 17, 1897. In 1898 they purchased the 3758 Mill Street home which was built around 1866 by Willard and Celia Curtis. This was across the street from the Curtis ancestral home at 3765 Mill Street which was built in 1826. Margaret remembered with pleasure the cobblestone blacksmith shop build by her great grandfather and operated for years by grandfather, Brainard and his brother, James. The shop was sold to the Second Reformed Church. It was demolished and the church was built in 1910. Scott Curtis started the undertaking business in about 1899 which continued until his death in 1941. Nellie continued the business for several years. Margaret attended school in Marion, graduating in 1923. She attended Phone Syllabic Business School in Rochester from September 1923 to February 1924. Her first job was in Williamson. She did secretarial and bookkeeping for Tassell & Fairbanks (plumbing and electrical supplies) and for Willis P. Rogers, who operated a muck and fruit farm. From February 1925 through February 1938 she had a secretarial and bookkeeping position at the Marion Canning Company (now Seneca Foods). In February 1938, she became the first secretary at the Marion Central School when Frank K. Mosher was Principal and worked successively with Frances Young, Howard Austin and Chester Curtis until October 1965. In 1966-67 she worked with Dr. Wilbur Saunders and Dr. William Davison during the birth of the United Church of Marion, Baptist and Presbyterian. She worked with the first pastor of the United Church, Rev. Robert Hyatt and interim pastor, Rev. Gerald Harris, becoming the first church secretary for Rev. David VanArsdale. She also worked with the interim pastor, Rev. John Rein and the pastor, Rev. Heidi Fuller. She retired as church secretary in 1991 but continued to be active in church and community affairs until her death. Margaret loved music and was active in the church choir until recent years. She participated in many community activities and was interested in local history. She is survived by her cousins, Eleanor Fairbanks of Williamson, Louise Fairbanks Harper of Clyde, and James Smith of Baltimore, MD; special friends, Richard and Murriel DeReu, Ontario; many second cousins and friends.
